The rain screen technique which is integrated into ventilated walls, aims to eliminate at its core, one of the main factors of water penetration into walls.
This happens when there is the co-existence of 3 factors:

-an opening
-water
-a differential force or pressure which makes the water move in through the opening.

The traditional solution to this problem in the construction sector is to act upon the opening, eliminating it through the use of blocking materials.
The difficulty of maintaining state of the art installation standards on the job site and where materials are subject to environmental forces, which include but are not limited to, thermal expansions and the direct exposure to UV rays often causes damages to the system and/or higher costs of maintenance.
Being unable to offer a successful solution to the 'water' factor, the 'rain screen' technique focuses on the elimination of the third factor: the differential pressure which forces the water to move inside the structure.
The solution involves leaving open joints in the facade which allows free circulation of external air into the internal chamber in such a way that the pressure is equalized.
